Welcome to Nurani Village
Nurani is the village which is considered to be one among the best, biggest and beautifulest in Palakkad district of Kerala state in India comprises Tamil Brahmins. This village is more than 150 years old. A large group of Brahmins fearing the persecutions of the Tanjavur Maharaja (Tanjavur is now a district headquarters in Tamil Nadu the neighboring state), fled the kingdom and moved over to different parts of Kerala and one such community was formed in Nurani.
The village deity - The PURNA PUSHKALAMBA SAMETHA - SRI HARIHARA PUTRA SWAMI is revered by all the community members from within the district and the state of Kerala. Its merits are known throughout the different cities and the songs which are sung during the annual SASTHA PREETHI is now the anthem for most of the AYYAPPA poojas in various cities in India and abroad.
Nurani hosts the famous Thulasiamman Pooja and Sasthapreethi festivals every year. Nurani Sastha Preethi is considered to be the premier annual celebration at the village Sastha temple. Apart from the temple, the annual Ratholsavam (chariot carraige drawn through the streets of the village with the aid of an elephant), the famous Chada Chadayam a delicacy made out of coconut milk and jaggery are the other features. The Satha Preethi festival falls either at the fag end of the month of December or the beginning of January. Following in the footsteps of the Nurani village, different cities also host the Nurani Sastha Preethi wherein they follow similar rituals and even the food served as prasamdam at the end of festivities match with that served in Nurani Village.
Sri Ayyappa Temple
As part of the annual Sastha Preethi festival, the holy procession with caparisoned elephants. The two day festivity is preceded by 45 days of special poojas and daily free sumptuous meal served to all who visit the temple during these days and all these are sponsored by devotees.
Sri Ganapathy Temple
As part of the annual Sastha Preethi festival, the holy procession with caparisoned elephants Also visits the Ganapathy temple. Ganapathy Temple hosts the annual Vinayaka Chathurthi festival.
Sri Siva Temple
As part of the annual Sastha Preethi festival, the holy procession with caparisoned elephants Also visits the Shiva Temple. This Temple hosts the annual Sivarathri festival and the Subramania swamy deity is also revered and the annual Thai poosam festival is conducted by carrying the traditional Kavadi and special Milk abhishekams are conducted this day.
Sasthapreethi
The town is known for celebrating Sasthapreethi, a festival devoted to the Hindu deity Ayyappan. Nowadays, Sastha Preethi is celebrated all over India in various names such as Ayyappan Villakku, Ayyappan Pattu, Sastha Pattu etc. Sastha having earned a name of Annadhana Prabhu, mass feasts are arranged for the function every year. It is believed that Nurani, the famous agraharam in Palakkad Town in Kerala is the origin of Sastha cult. All over Kerala for Sasthapreethi festivals "Nurani Chellapillai song" is common. The festival consists of various traditions and rituals, along with hosting prominent musicians and instrumentalists (especially practitioners of the Panchavadyam art form). It is also known for its use of elephants. Shasthapreethi is a multi-day festival that includes Thulasiamman poojai.

Car Festival in Shiva Temple
First One Is At Sivan Kovil. Panguni uthiram ratholsavam at Shiva Temple. Name itself shows that it falls in the month of Panguni (March – April) and Dhwajarohanam is before 8 days in rohini star and ratholsavam on 9th day. Dhwajaavarohanam is on the 10th day after arattu.
Car Festival in MahaVishnu Temple
Second One Is At Maha Vishnu Temple (Ayyappa Temple) . Here also Dhwajarohanam is on rohini star in the month of chithira (mostly Akshaya Thritheeya) and car festival on the 9th day in uthiram star. Here importance is stressed on Dhwajaavarohanam on 10th day after arattu in hastham star. In some months it may go to the month of vaikasi.
Uriyadi
Uriyadi is a part of Krishna Leela. Sri Krishna Breading milk curd and butter pots. It is celebrated once in a year in various days in various places. In Nurani it is celebrated on Aavani Sunday.
